National Institutes of Health Study – Vitamin D May Reduce Risk Of Fibroids

In recent years doctors have begun to prescribe Vitamin D more regularly.  A recent and very encouraging study by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) indicates that Vitamin D may reduce the risk of uterine fibroids.  We’ve written about the benefits of Vitamin D before, and it is wonderful to see more extensive studies continue to support this important supplement for health.

I believe that it improves monthly symptoms as well.  The new NIH study supports the notion that our bodies are a delicate balance that can often be reset with holistic remedies.  I’m always pleased to see traditional medicine and holistic medicine merge.  We are making progress!  Your doctor can test your Vitamin D levels and prescribe an appropriate dosage for you.

Vitamin D is a relatively easy to find supplement that is not cost prohibitive for many women.  Taking a Vitamin D supplement is particularly necessary during winter months, and in climates where there is not an abundance of sunlight.  If weather permits, 30 minutes in the sun can often make me feel better.

The NIH Vitamin D study is a pleasant reminder that simple remedies do exist.  As always, document your symptoms and advise your doctor about supplements that you take.
