NIH Study – Vitamin D Tests Well for Shrinking Fibroids

Yesterday the National Institutes of Health released encouraging results on a recent laboratory study of Vitamin D.

Dr. Lou DePaolo, Ph.D., Chief of the Reproductive Sciences Branch of the NIH’s Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, which funded the study, stated that, “The study results provide a promising new lead in the search for a non-surgical treatment for fibroids that doesn’t affect fertility.”

In recent years, Vitamin D, or the absence of Vitamin D in patients has been a focus in the medical community. Physicians have begun prescribing Vitamin D more frequently. I look forward to seeing the results of the additional research that is planned. I am excited that this study indicates progress without surgery.

What lovely news to close out our week!

More details on the study can be found at http://www.nih.gov/news/health/mar2012/nichd-01.htm.

Be Well,
